We stopped in this small town to visit Santee State Park. To our surprise we got more. Santee is such a charming town with lots of southern hospitality.

It takes you back in time with the rural setting I remember while growing up. I just love the old buildings.
To our surprise they were open for business. I was drawn to this spot by the old car parked out front.
Santee is located on the south of the largest freshwater lake in the state of South Carolina. Interstate 95 runs through the town. The Conference Center and Water Park are a big hit with travelers.
Santee State Park (due to Hurricane Matthew please check with the park) has plenty to keep you busy, a playground for the kids, boat rentals, tennis, biking or you can just walk the nature trails. Go fishing, camping, or birdwatching in the Wetlands. The activities are endless. Their cabins can accommodate up to six people and come furnished. There's even free wi-fi! Lakefront camping areas are convenient while fishing on Lake Marion which is one of the fifty largest lakes in the country. The area is known for catfish, large mouth, striped bass and other species.
We really enjoyed our stay in Santee and we think it's picnic shelters are perfect for family gatherings/reunions or just when the family wants to unwind. There is so much beauty within the park.
Put this little town and it's park on your list of places to visit!
