Savannah's Historic Waterfront

Historic River Street

  Savannah’s Historic Waterfront River Street
runs along Savannah River
with paved with 200 year old cobblestones.

For over 48 years, it played an integral role in the
Atlantic slave trade until 1798
in which the Georgia legislature
banned slave trade from Africa.

Home to more
 than 70 businesses, shops and
restaurants the century old buildings,
once warehouses holding King Cotton
are now antique shops, galleries,
nightspots, and elegant inns and hotels.

After over a century it was rediscovered in the 1970s
 by local landowners and planners
which revived the
history and glory of old River Street.

One of the busiest ports in
America you can take a ferry ride,
dinner cruise or
just watch ships from around the globe.

There is so much History in this street!!
